As of yesterday, we are officially full time RVers! Pretty scary…but really exciting! Phil and I have been planning this dramatic lifestyle change for the past 8 months. We finally accepted delivery of our new 44 foot Weekend Warrior toy hauler yesterday. We are currently staying in the unit on the RV Factory parking lot to test everything. We have reservations at a local KOA campground in Elkhart/South Bend and hope to be there by Monday.

I ran across your website as I was researching Weekend Warriors. We have had a fifth wheel for the past 9 years, which we use for horse shows. A Big Country and now a Road Warrior. We are looking to trade our unit in next spring and so far, Weekend Warrior seems to have the best floor plan for us. After reading your article about all the problems you incurred while they were building your unit, I am a bit hesitant. After living in your camper since June, are you still happy with your decision to stick with Weekend Warrior? Would you recommend ordering a custom unit from them? Is there anything you would change about the upgrades and customization, now that you have been in the camper for a few months? I appreciate any advice you can give. Thank you and enjoy your travels.

Well, after living in the Weekend Warrior for the past 5 months, we still really love the layout, and are slowly trying to work out all the issues and make it more of our home. Problems with the RV Factory are not going away, in fact, they are getting worse – they are denying responsibility for things that were clearly their fault. Also trying to get away with shoddy warranty repairs. The only way I would buy another one is if I were there to manage the build. It doesn’t seem they are capable of handling customizations too well. I wrote a negative review of them on the BBB website and their reply was that we gave them too many customizations. They didn’t mention all of the customizations were approved by their engineering and no one had anything bad to say until after delivery. As far as the options we chose, we love the 2 recliners instead of the dinette. We have a small foldable table we use for dinner. We also love the zero-g ramp door from MorRyde. We also had them install USB charging stations all through the coach – we couldn’t live without those. 🙂 All in all, it’s coming around. My recommendation: if you do customizations, have their engineering sign a document approving them and stating the delivery date. When they took on our build, they didn’t move the delivery date even after reading my customizations. I thought they would have, and now I see they should have. Best of luck to you!!

Hello. I noticed you have a DRW truck. Did you have an issue with the truck rail height and clearance to the trailer? My rails are 58″ and I’ve been told the bottom of the overhang on the 4250 is 61″. I have read that 6″ minimum is recommended. Thanks!
As a matter of fact…. 🙂 The very day we took delivery, I punctured the underside of the cap with my rail! We were going to the big parking lot to practice maneuvering but to get into the parking lot, we had to go over a crown as you turn off the road. Turns out we only had about 3 inches of clearance.
The GMC has a deep railing so what we ended up doing was 1) raising the Curt Q24 to its highest setting (17″), then lowered the pinbox by one set of bolts from where the factory puts it. Also, we had to have the rear of the pinbox cut to reduce the length of the pinbox so it didn’t strike the side rails when turning tight (something we also did the first day).
Once we did these things, we have about 5 inches of clearance and have cleared fine on some pretty good crowns.
