About Us
We are full time RV’ers. What?!!!
We have always enjoyed camping, although in a much rougher fashion. We have backpacked and camped in Kalalau on Kauai, kayaked and camped in Awjumawi Lava Springs State Park and Tomales Bay, and tent camped in numerous places. By September 2015, we had upgraded to a 20 foot tent with toilet, folding shelves, queen bed with down feather comforter, rugs, outdoor sink, and more. Talk about glamping! At that time, RV camping was not even on our radar. Then in October 2015, we began to seriously think about full-time RVing.
We went to our first RV show to see what was out there. One of our major requirements was a large enough space to have an office. We are not retirement age yet, but we both have worked from home for the past few years. Our business is web application development and design and does not require us to be attached to any one place, so it was a somewhat easy decision to continue this in an RV rather than a sticks and bricks house. After looking at a few RV’s, we decided that a toy hauler was the best option. We could use the garage space as our office. Perfect!
We started our plan. We decided to sell EVERYTHING, including our beautiful house in Castle Rock, CO.
Why? One reason was to be able to visit the grandchildren. We had moved to Colorado to be near our first two grandchildren and we loved it. Then along came the third grandchild, but he is a few states away. We wanted to be able to spend some quality time with them, not just a week or two here and there over the year. We are hoping this lifestyle will allow us to visit them for a month or more at a time.
We were also not looking forward to moving a completely full house again. Since Phil’s sons are both in the military, we would have had to move again to follow the grandkids. We have moved four times in the last seven years (for work and family)…that’s a lot of work. Downsizing and having all of our stuff in an RV seemed very appealing.
The second reason we chose full-time RV living is because we both love to travel and experience different places. We are looking forward to experiencing the beautiful places that our country has to offer…enjoying the views, hiking and kayaking.
It has a been a stressful process. Selling all of your belongings is freeing, but also very difficult to deal with at times. Like a lot of people, we had accumulated A LOT of stuff over the years. In the end, none of that stuff really mattered. We scanned important documents and photos, so we always have them with us. We weeded out the other stuff that was most important and attempted to load it all into the RV (hah!).
We are still in the process of making this our new life. We have a beautiful 44 foot fifth wheel toy hauler. There have been issues, but we have discovered that this is not unusual for a new RV. We constantly meet people who have also had to deal with problems in their new RV. We are working through them. In the meantime, we have a lot of new places to look forward to.
